Corps of Drums - 1,2 Menin Gate Ypres Belgium 2008 - 3 Menin Gate Ypres Belgium 2004 - 4 A day trip from Ypres into France 2004
After a gap of more than 20 years, the Corps of Drums was reformed in July 1997 with financial help from a Local Arts Council/ Lottery grant. The grant was used to refurbish instruments that were used in the original Corps of Drums disbanded in 1979 and also to add new instruments. The Corps now has its own Corps of Drums to lead parades throughout the year and to give the Cadets an opportunity to be introduced to music and give them a chance to learn to play an instrument. As an added bonus, the Corps of Drums has potential to raise much needed additional funds for the Corps through donations made from performing at fetes and other parades. The criteria for joining the Corps of Drums is to be 10 years of age or older, prepared to work hard and show commitment. We aim to provide basic tuition in the following areas: • Care and maintenance of instruments • How instruments work • Basics of playing instruments • Dress and drill • Learning about military bands through video and CD.Parade night for the Corps of Drums, for ages 10 years and above, is held at Caird Hall every Thursday night starting at 19:15 hrs and finishing at 20:45 hrs.
